Fishing Opportunities

Why do over 600,000 Western Australians participate in recreational fishing each year? Probably because it’s fun, physical, takes in the wonderful outdoor environment and can often provide a healthy meal.

Having a disability shouldn’t be a barrier to being able to enjoy this opportunity. There are a variety of ways to get involved in fishing, depending on how serious you want your fishing experience to be. You may enjoy participating in one of the association’s Fishers Unlimited programs, either from the shore or aboard our universally accessible vessel the Nev Thomas.

Perhaps you would prefer to find an accessible fishing location and head off fishing with family or friends.  If you require assistance with upper limb mobility, you may find the modified equipment used in the Fishers Unlimited programs assists to have increased independence in your fishing activities.

Once your “hooked” on fishing you might want to join a local fishing group or club; or maybe even get a group together and start your own.

The Fishers with Disabilities association is very happy to provide any knowledge, information or assistance it is able to, that may help community members with disabilities become actively involved in recreational fishing.
